ORPHANS FIRST URGENT REQUESTS for Nikita & other adoptions awaiting adoption. December 8th, 2005 Hi again Friends, I know I just wrote yesterday, but today brings a new, important need: I asked Joyce Schaller what is happening with the adoptions of Nikita, Roman & others. Here is her answer. This really needs MEGA prayer. Hi, Janey: Here is the news: You know, that Nikita has an adoptive family, along with all the other orphans who came to Virginia as part of the Family Hope Program this summer. However, since April 2005 when a woman in Chicago, IL went to trial for beating to death her Russian adopted child, only 2 American adoption agencies have received re-accreditation to assist couples with their adoptions. There is so much bad press in Russia which feeds the urban myth that the only reason anyone adopts Russian children is to abuse them or take their internal organs. Anyway, Hand In Hand, which is the agency that International Family Services works in conjunction with to do adoptions in St Petersburg, Russia has been waiting since April to receive its renewed accreditation. In Russia, agencies accreditation is good for 5 years. So, as of this moment, none of the families have even had their first official visit. This is extremely difficult on all of them and my family too, since we are waiting and hoping to adopt a 9 year old boy who is blind in one eye. I have been fighting with depression over this and my own deep sense that I am responsible for these families as they wait... Can you please pray that Hand in Hand receives its renewed accreditation so that the adoptions that are in the works can move forward? That families who are frustrated and angry over the waiting to bring their children home can have a renewed sense of peace and hope that the process will begin in earnest?
